Ather Energy  recently launched the 450X Gen 3 in India as its latest flagship offering. The updated e-scooter has brought in a bevy of changes which should now make it an even more desirable product. That said, India also has another prominent name in the electric two-wheeler space, the Ola S1 Pro. Now, the aforementioned EVs are loaded with features and pack commendable performance too. So, let's compare the two and see which one does better on paper.

The Ather 450X Gen 3 looks identical to the previous generation model. It features the same sporty bodywork and is set to appeal to the youth. Its LED headlight is mounted on the apron while the turn indicators are integrated into the handlebar cowl. Even the side panels and overall dimensions are quite compact making the Ather 450X a nimble scooter. On the other hand, the Ola S1 Pro is a rather geeky-looking scooter. It too gets compact dimensions but the bodywork is curvy rather than sharp. The S1 Pro gets a twin LED projector headlight mounted on the handlebar cowl and the LED turn indicators on the front apron.

Apart from LED illumination, the Ather 450X Gen 3 features navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, five riding modes (smart eco, eco, ride, sport, and warp), reverse mode, touchscreen TFT display, side-stand sensor, 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM, vehicle diagnostics and OTA. Meanwhile, Ola has equipped the S1 Pro with a TFT touchscreen display, four ride modes (eco, normal, sport, and hyper), reverse mode, Bluetooth connectivity, music playback, scooter lock/unlock, and boot lock/unlock via phone, and navigation. Ola also plans to deploy more features with its Move OS4 update later this year, via OTA.

One of the most important updates to the Ather 450 Gen 3 is the 3.9kWh battery instead of the 2.9kWh unit in the predecessor. Ather claims that the 450X Gen 3 can clock 105km range in Eco mode and 85km in Ride mode. It's powered by the same 6.2kW motor as before. The Ola S1 Pro draws power from an 8.5kW motor mated to a 3.97kWh lithium-ion battery. Ola claims that the S1 Pro can clock 181km in ideal riding conditions. However, our test found out that the scooter does about 100kms in daily riding conditions (normal mode).

Ather has equipped the 450X Gen 3 with telescopic front forks and rear mono-shock. The braking hardware consists of a 200mm front disc and a 190mm rear disc with CBS (combine braking system and regenerative braking as well). The 450X Gen 3 rides on 12-inch alloys wrapped in 90/90 front tyre and 100/90 rear tyre. With the larger battery pack, the 450X now weighs 111.6kg.

The Ola S1 Pro is suspended on a single front fork and a rear monoshock. Its braking hardware comprises a 220mm front disc and a 180mm rear disc with CBS. The S1 Pro rides on 12-inch alloys wrapped in 110/70 section tyres and weighs 125kg.

The asking price for the Ather 450X Gen 3 is set at Rs 1,55,657 (ex-showroom Bengaluru, including FAME II subsidy). Ola has priced the S1 Pro at 1,39,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru, including FAME II and state subsidy).
