We take our magnifying glasses to scrutinize thoroughly the brand-new smartphone and the whole package of features it comes with.

Released this month, the all-new Samsung Galaxy M33 5G finally arrives at our doorstep for review. Equipped with a 120Hz display, a quad-camera setup and a massive 6,000mAh battery life, the brand-new 5G Android smartphone from Samsung is offered at under Rs 20,000. The model comes in 6GB/8GB RAM options coupled with a 128GB internal memory. But to uncover the details hidden beneath its apparently impressive specifications, we dug deeper into the smartphone and tested its performance inside out. Here is the latest Samsung Galaxy M33 5G review, to give you a clearer picture as to whether you should go ahead and pick this one or not.

The Galaxy M33 5G comes riding in with a compact rectangular box. The package consists of the device itself, a Type-C to Type-C USB cable, an ejector pin and a quick start guide. The smartphone is offered in two colours, Deep Ocean Blue and Mystique Green, out of which we got our hands on the latter.

Picking it up in your hands, you may feel the Samsung Galaxy M33 5G to be of considerable weight as compared to others in its range. Its smooth, black and shiny display also appears to be quite large. It has an FHD+ TFT LCD 120Hz display of size is 16.72cm (6.6-inches approx) and 82.5% screen-to-body ratio. The screen comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Further, the dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy M33 5G are 6.51 x 3.03 x 0.37-inches.

Flip it over and you will be greeted with its shiny Mystique Green plastic back cover with a metallic touch to its surface. Upon feeling the back, you will observe that it does not attract fingerprints easily. The rear quad-camera system of the smartphone is neatly mounted on a raised platform, symmetrical in placement. However, the flashlight is fixed a bit lower to the mount.

The frame of the Galaxy M33 5G is also made of body-coloured plastic. On its left side lies the SIM card tray, while its right side carries the volume as well as the power button. The power button has a built-in fingerprint sensor, too. On the bottom side of the smartphone frame lies a 3.5mm jack, a Type-C USB port as well as a loudspeaker.

Bringing the phone to life, its vibrant and colourful display beams with a glow. The Galaxy M33 5G has a screen resolution of 1,080 x 2,408 pixels with a 20:9 aspect ratio and 400ppi density. The colour quality, contrast and saturation of the smartphone’s display are commendable. Moreover, when exposed to direct sunlight, the brightness of the screen works great and makes it well legible even with a 50% screen brightness setting.

The touch quality of the Samsung Galaxy M33 5G’s display is quite soft and swift. Videos on Youtube can be streamed only in up to 1080p quality, although the streaming experience still appears premium. Streaming TV shows and movies on OTT platforms like Netflix is also smooth. However, the picture quality while streaming appears to be slightly grainy. An improvement in its fineness could make the streaming quality reach perfection. The gaming experience on the smartphone is also good. The graphics shown are quite bright and colourful, with great contrast levels. But again, the fineness in quality and details could be improved.

Overall, the design of the Samsung Galaxy M33 5G is good while the display is decent. The Samsung Galaxy M33 5G is great to take out to celebrations and parties at night, as it possesses a character of glamour in it.

To elaborate further on the Samsung Galaxy M33 5G specs, it is a dual SIM smartphone with a dedicated slot for a microSD card. It comes with an Exynos 1280 (5nm) Octa-core processor and supports 5G connectivity, Bluetooth 5.1 as well as fast speed Wi-Fi. The model is offered with two RAM options of 6GB and 8GB, both coupled with a 128GB storage capacity.

The battery offered here is of 6,000mAh capacity, the highest in the market currently. Performance-wise also, the battery works well. It runs well for about 2 days when used moderately and more than that upon mild usage. The smartphone takes approximately 2 hours to charge fully. However, it may get heated up slightly during charging.

The smartphone comes with Android 12 OS (operating system). The overall look and arrangement of icons on the home page and within the app drawer is of a typical Samsung device. However, the size of the icons in the app drawer appears large, providing enhanced visibility and access to the user. The OS has a very fine quality and the colours are quite appealing to the eyes. There was no lag observed in its performance while testing the device through multitasking and opening multiple applications. The phone does get slightly heated up upon continuous heavy usage for prolonged periods of time, especially in this hot weather.

The Galaxy M33 5G does not offer a stereo audio output. Hence, one certainly misses the ultimate experience of enjoying the sound from both sides while watching videos, movies or TV series. However, in terms of loudness, the single loudspeaker works quite well. The smartphone without a shred of doubt offers a great colour quality, a wide range of colours full of vibrance, contrast and brightness. The same is reflected while streaming videos on Netflix or while playing games like Angry Birds 2. However, a smooth finish and fineness could be introduced in the graphics quality and video streaming. Meanwhile, its touch experience was quite smooth overall.

The Samsung Galaxy M33 5G comes with a 50MP+5MP+2MP+2MP rear quad-camera system with an 8MP front selfie camera. There are 5 zoom modes offered, namely 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 4x and 10x. The rear camera can record videos in [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected] The front camera has two recording modes of [email protected] and [email protected]

The quality offered via the 0.5x, 1x and 2x rear camera zoom modes is better than its 4x and 10x zoom modes, which give a quite pixelated view. Further among the first three, the 0.5x zoom mode loses details but offers a good colour quality, contrast and vibrance. The 2x zoom also works well as the quality stays consistent. The night mode of the rear camera works decently while that of the selfie camera gives quite grainy results. The low light photography in both could have been better in terms of sharpness, detail, colour and picture quality. An update is probably on its way from Samsung that will enhance all these aspects for the user.

The normal Photo mode of the selfie camera in bright light clicks good images. The colours appear close to reality. The Photo mode of the rear camera works great too. But the top performance is given by the rear camera’s Pro mode, as it is able to capture even more details and provide fine quality captures. The images clicked via the Pro mode are even sharper, clearer and vibrant while reflecting an enhanced contrast as compared to normal Photo mode. It gives a nice pop-effect to its clicks. The Macro mode gives quite grainy or pixelated results. The colours are excessively vibrant, and the picture lacks quality overall.

The rear cam records videos with stabilization. The whites increase in the recording frames. Apart from that, the overall colour palette appears slightly dull but does not affect too much. Recordings made in the 2x zoom get a bit hazy or lose clarity. Speaking of the selfie camera, it records good quality videos in bright light in [email protected] and above.

Overall, the performance of the Galaxy M33 5G is decent but the camera package offered could certainly improve.

The Samsung Galaxy M33 5G hence, does come with a bunch of cons along with a lot of pros that it offers. The model design and display quality along with the battery life offered are quite decent. However, the camera performance for a few of the rear cams needs to be improved. Geekbench 5 CPU benchmark produced a single-core score of 735 and a multi-core score of 1,842, with several devices like the Galaxy Note20 Ultra, Galaxy S20 series and above, Xiaomi Poco F1, F3 and X3 Pro scoring higher than it. The Samsung Galaxy M33 Pro 5G price in India starts at Rs 17,999 and very well can be your next buy or upgrade from a feature phone or a low-budget smartphone.
