Southern Country Customs has modified a Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special into an eye candy for a noble cause.

The word custom can make a ton of difference in anything we buy, custom clothing or custom kitchenette, most importantly in the price tag. But there's got to be a limit somewhere. That's not what SCC was thinking when they put a tag on this custom-built Harley-Davidson.

A whopping $100,000 is what would set you back for an SSC customized Road Glide Special. They're good at what they do too, often making headlines for their unique custom motorcycle builds. The custom house is into full custom design and build, suspension and engine upgrades, and general tuning. But they don't come cheap. Clearly.

Southern Country Customs has modified a Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special into an eye candy for a noble cause.

The most expensive custom build in SSC's lineup is this H-D, which was once a stock 2021 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special (not too long ago then). The bike's been finished in a black, red, and milky grey paint job. It gets a jump in upgrades and a leap in price.

It was first showcased at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip Charity ride and auction last year. If you didn't see it there, well, see it here because it was sold. The moral of the story is that a motorcycle priced at as much as a collectible car finds a buyer in this world.

Not many details have been provided by SCC about the changes and additions made to the Road Glide. But the list is extensive and most of them visual. Among other things, it gets a custom-built exhaust system slapped onto the stock engine, a larger 26-inch wheel up front, and most of all, a sound system put together by a crew called Soundz.

Surely, the Road Glide with a massive body kit on looks insane and perhaps sounds like it too, but is it really worth spending $100k on it? Well, it was for someone. It is fascinating to see such expensive models finding buyers when really H-D's global sales have been struggling. In the first seven months of the year, Harley-Davidson global registrations have been -14.7% projecting the full year at the lowest level out of the last 15 years.

The company has had an overhaul in its strategy to lure younger buyers with models like Pan America and the all-electric Harley-Davidson Livewire. Anyhow, the real charm of Harley motorcycles remains in big cruisers and baggers, and this Sturgis Charity Special stands out even more.

Southern Country Customs (SCC) are a team created by former NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace not that long ago. A quick look on SCC’s website reveals a rather small number of projects completed, all based on some variant of Harley’s Glide family, and all painted in the flashiest of colors. Another thing common in all of them is that they're all priced over the $50,000 mark, except one.

They are all variations of the Glide motorcycles and do have a distinctive SCC theme about them all. You could almost imagine it as a motorcycle catalog for different variations of the Predator from the video game series. Everything on this catalog, however, is sold, except a 2022 Harley-Davidson Street Glide and a 2022 Road Glide 21" Bully Fatty.

The average pricing on these motorcycles is between $57,000 to $75,000. The most affordable one of them all is a 2015 Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide and the most expensive is the one that got us to feature it here, the Sturgis Charity Special at a massive and neat $100,000.

The MY2022 Road Glide is powered by a 1,868 cc Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine that delivers 94 PS at 5250 rpm and 158 Nm. The stock motorcycle features Boom! Box GTS infotainment system with a 165 mm full-color TFT screen and two 13.3 cm BOOM speakers. There's also voice recognition, but that depends on smartphone connectivity through Bluetooth.

The 2022 Road Glide lineup was unveiled last year, including the Road Glide and Road Glide Special, followed by the ST variant that was newly added in January 2022 with a few changes over the other variants. Moreover, the older CVO Limited has been replaced by the new CVO Road Glide Limited model which is the most touring-focused variant of all.

The ST has a different look due to a slimmer front fender, bronze highlights, and a new badge that reads '117', along with a 'Heavy Breather' air intake. The Road Glide ST uses a single seat, unlike other variants that can accommodate a pillion.

The biggest difference though is the larger 1923cc Milwaukee 117 engine as opposed to the 1750cc and 1870cc in the standard and Special trims, respectively. The pricing for the Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special starts at $27,449 and goes up to $30,679 for the custom two-tone color.
