In the highly competitive smartphone mid-range, mistakes are unforgivable. Samsung's Galaxy A32 5G almost got everything right in 2021, but buyers had to make some concessions in terms of panel quality compared to the Galaxy A31 predecessor. Instead of an AMOLED display, there was only a TFT-LCD which, with its low-contrast display and a resolution of just 1600 x 720 in a 6.5-inch screen diagonal, did not garner much sympathy with buyers.
Samsung has corrected this mistake with its latest Galaxy A smartphone: The Galaxy A33 5G again uses an AMOLED display. With a resolution of 2400 x 1080, this is the same as the hierarchically superior Galaxy A53 5G, and even achieves luminance peaks of over 1000 cd/m² under testing. Both the AMOLED panel and such a high brightness are not common in the mid-range. On average, the display achieved a luminance value of just under 700 cd/m² in our review.
Another strong argument for purchasing the Galaxy A33 5G is Samsung's update guarantee: Up to 4 years of system updates for One UI and the Android OS are promised. One can thus reasonably assume that this includes Android 16. Moreover, Samsung also plans to roll out up to five years worth of Android security updates.
Other improvements concern the case. While the chassis of the Galaxy A32 5G is neither water- nor dustproof, the Galaxy A33 5G comes with the corresponding certification (IP67). This means that the smartphone can survive a swim of up to 30 minutes in one meter of water without damage.
